Matt Richards
1 Kings 19 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.
You know at this time Elijah had come from a place of great victory over Jezebel, to a place of great mental and spiritual defeat. He felt depressed, suicidal, and wanted to give up ministry. In fact he self isolated in a cave. He was far from where he should be, he was in a cave of lock down. Then God told him to change his position. To go from a place of seclusion and self pity to a place and a posture where he could hear from God. In order to hear, you have to position yourself. Change your posture from self-pity to looking up and listening. God passed by there as a wind, an earthquake, and a fire but the bible says that the Lord wasn't in them. But then there was a whisper. Often than not God is quite dramatic in callings and when people are baby Christians. But I have found the deeper the walk with God the less He shouts and shakes stuff. The more He whispers. Are you feeling like you want to give up? Have you locked yourself away and self- isolated? Perhaps you need to come out of the cave today and reposition yourself so you are open to hear the whisper of God. God still speaks, but can you hear Him. Many distractions and dramas try to deafen us to His voice; but if we would be still we would hear the whisper. Prayer:
Father forgive me for isolating myself in a place of self-pity. I choose to reposition myself today to a place I can hear your voice Your whisper in Jesus' name, Amen.
