The Prayer of Solomon

.Matt Richards

1 Kings 3:9 So give Your servant an understanding mind and a hearing heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and bad. For who is able to judge and rule this Your great people? It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this.

The Message says: give me a 'God-listening heart so I can lead your people well'. Several years ago the 'prayer of Jabez' became very popular; and a great prayer it is too. But I think this prayer should gain notoriety. God so loved this prayer that he gave Solomon the things he didn't ask for. You know in his prayer Solomon didn't ask for riches or fame or even long life. But he asked for a 'hearing heart.' A 'God listening heart' that he might judge or discern between good and bad, so he could be an effective leader. You know this is my prayer today. I desire a 'God hearing heart'. I want to hear His voice. How can I lead my life, my family, and His church if I am not able to hear from God? Sometimes our hearts can become hard. Like a build up of ear wax, it then becomes difficult to hear his voice. Oh for a soft heart that can hear and respond to the whispers of God. Prayer:

Father forgive me for being hard, for being critical. Soften my heart. Give me I pray a hearing heart that I might be the man You've called me to be and be able to discern good from evil in Jesus' name Amen.
