Mark 9:29 And He replied to them, This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting.
There are many reasons not to fast. Many excuses really I can give myself not to do this crazy old fashioned thing called fasting.
Medical conditions, poor concentration, family commitments; that it's legalism etc. etc.
But the truth, the total truth is my flesh just doesn't like it. That's why we will try every fast other than food.
But here in this passage is a reason to fast and pray.
It has great power in seeing people delivered from demons.
This kind: what kind, well this kind of demon.
Can only be driven out but prayer and fasting.
Sometimes counselling the person will not work to get them free. Teaching them at times will not get people free. Even great devotional life for people won't do it.
There are occasions where the normal stuff even biblical stuff won't unstick people.
Don't get me wrong I believe in a truth encounter for people. I believe in repentence and renouncing involvement in the occult etc. etc.
But some kinds come out with prayer and fasting.
We complicate it really; perhaps because we don't want to pay the price. We just dont want to fast, we love food too much.
But Jesus said the reason you couldn't cast it out was this kind comes out through prayer and fasting.

Try fasting and prayer..the Jesus way.
Prayer:
Father forgive me for looking for short cuts. Show me how to fast, help me to undertake this for myself and others freedom this New Year in Jesus' name Amen.
