Loving Light, Hating Darkness

Aiden Matthams

John 3:19-21 "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”

Been chewing this over for a while now... People often use the argument, "If there's a God, why is there so much evil in the world?"   And the answer why there's so much evil in the world is because people love darkness. Plain and simple. There's something about the human heart that is attracted to and fascinated by darkness. Something about rebellion, violence, death, and the macabre has an alluring quality like a moth to flames. Don't belive me? Just look at the wicked films and TV shows people are watching on Netflix, or Amazon, or on tv etc. Listen to the music and see the music videos of today's pop culture. And we wonder why the world is a mess, where there are killings and people are so quick to resort to violence, aggression, stealing, looting, fighting etc, and many even have the nerve to blame God for the evil in the world.

Newsflash: It ain't Gods fault! There's good news, in all this. When we come in to the light of Christ, it's like these gets reversed. Suddenly, darkness is repellent. The sinister becomes sickening, and the heart begins to hunger and thirst for righteousness, truth and purity. Thank God for the Holy Spirit! So what it means to be Christian in a world gone mad, is that you love God and hate darkness. You love truth and hate lies. All your decisions and behaviour will pivot on that perspective. Your taste in music changes, what you say changes the way you behave, the things you find funny, the things you find sad will all change when exposed to the light of Jesus Christ. And others will see that change. They see that light. They see something wholesome and different about you. Some will hate what's happened to you, because they are addicted to darkness and don't like the conviction. Others will be drawn to Christ, because of the change they see in you. That's what it means to be salt and light in the earth. Amen? Prayer:

God thank You for sending Jesus, the Light into this world. Thank You that You have exposed darkness in our lives and rewired us to love what's good and hate evil. Help us to walk in the light of Your word and the light of the Holy Spirit each day, so that others can see Your Glory and be drawn to You also. In Jesus' name, Amen.
