2 Samuel:22-25 "And he said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”
Solomon Is Born Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and slept with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the LORD loved him, and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD." So in this story, David had commited adultery with Bathsheba..not only that, but he killed her husband Uriah and married Bathsheba. Bathsheba got pregnant, but God rebuked David and the baby died. Sin brings death. It's a fact. The wages of sin is death. There are consequences to bad choices. That much is true. And David found out the hard way. But, in the midst of his greatest faliure, and his deepest, most awful regret, God did something very surprising. He gave David and Bathsheba a son. And not just any son, but the future king of Israel. That's grace. That's mercy. He didn't shame them, tell them to divorce, have them killed NO. Instead he blessed them and gave them Solomon, beloved of God. His name actually means peace in Hebrew. That's mercy. So maybe you can identify with David's pain here. Have you ever failed? Have you ever made a mistake that cost you something special? Have you ever forfeit a blessing because of a bad decision? A spiritual miscarriage, so to speak? I want to give a word of HOPE to someone, God has a Solomon for you. You will have another baby. You will be blessed again. You will prosper again. You will dream again. You will rejoice. And perhaps the next miracle in your life will come from the place of your pain, your fall...your mess. God can breath in to any situation and make it new. Maybe you have lost a real baby. Perhaps something went wrong, and you lost your precious child. I believe God wants to heal you and breath new life in to you today. Prayer:
Father thank You that you are merciful. Thank You the you forgive sin and failure and mess. And I thank You that you are breathing new life in to my mess. Thank you for Solomon. Thank You for the new thing. I receive healing, and I receive PEACE. In Jesus name.
