Did You Hear About..? Sow What?

Matt Richards

Proverbs 6: 16-20 These six things the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look [the spirit that makes one overestimate himself and underestimate others], a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who breathes out lies [even under oath], and he who sows discord among his brethren.

discord

noun (DISAGREEMENT)

the state of not agreeing or sharing opinions:

Other words associated..

Argument, bickering, conflict, disharmony, dissension. Infighting, rivalry, row, rangle, feud.'

You know there are people that just enjoy sowing discord. Spreading disharmony, fuelling the fire of discontent. Sadly even Christians.

Bible says here that God absolutely hates this.

Sowing discord doesn't mean just telling lies about someone. It could mean telling the truth about a person; but a truth that really didn't need to be told.

You see the bible says if we have a problem with someone to go to them and sort it out, not tell others on facebook or phone a friend (Matthew 18:15).

The bible also says to mind your own business (it really does) [1 Thessalonians 4:11].

God hates it when people, especially people that should know better sow unkind words and stir up strife and quarrels.

We are called to do the opposite:

'Blessed are the peacemakers'

(Matthew 5:9).

We are called to be peacemakers, 'ministers of reconciliation'

(2 Corinthians 5:18).

Remember whenever someone is putting someone else down or expanding their faults for you to hear. Those same people (even ministers it's sad to say)

will soon be talking about you.

Don't listen. Don't entertain it, and whatever you do; don't be the one who sows discord with your Christian brothers and sisters ever. God hates it.

They are, we are family. Same Father, different mother.

I hate it when my children bicker, tell tales on each other and try to bring each other down. And you know what, God hates, yes hate is a strong word but God hates it too.

Sow words of life. Sow encouragement. Sow things that build up, sow prophetic declarations. And soon you will, they will reap a mighty harvest. Life and death. Blessing and cursing are in the power of the tongue.

Choose life. Build up. One kind word.

Prayer:

Father forgive me for sowing discord. Forgive me for listening to others bringing people down. Help me today to be an encourager, a peacemaker, a sower of Hope in Jesus' name, amen.
