Are You A Couch Potato Christian?

Matt Richards

2 Chronicles 29:6 Our ancestors went wrong and lived badly before GOD—they discarded him, turned away from this house where we meet with GOD, and walked off. They boarded up the doors, turned out the lights, and canceled all the acts of worship of the GOD of Israel in the holy Temple what was evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned the LORD and his dwelling place; they turned their backs on him.

11 My sons, do not now be negligent, for the Lord has chosen you to stand in His presence, to serve Him, to be His ministers, and to burn incense to Him.

They shut the temple, they had shut the church, stopped public collective worship and became Couch Christians.

Couch Potato Christians.

Couch Potato

Definition:

a person who sits and watches a lot of television and does not have an active life.

It's easy, as we have previously read in Amos 6 and 2 Samuel instead of serving the purposes of God to become a couch potato, and in fact a Couch Potato Christian. In a season of war to be reclining and at ease on the couch.

A CPC is an expert in everything Christian, but not active in anything. Is a spectator, but not someone that is committed or takes part. They just sit on the couch and dare I say it at best—they zoom.

We have encouraged, we have even applauded this. There are even churches that are designed for just for the couch potato. CPCC.

Where the person just spectates the show and nothing really is expected of them. The more comfortable and at ease they are the better. The transition from building to computer has then been a relatively easy one.

With Hezekiah's reform he realised the error of the previous generation.

He set to re-open for public worship. He set to re-open and end lockdown. He set to look at what Church should really be about. To make changes, to get back to how it should look.

What an opportunity right now to do the same.

Let's not be passive. Let's not as the passage urges us; be negligent. Let's not be a couch potato Christian.

Prayer:

Father forgive me for being passive. Forgive me for being an expert, not taking part, but just sitting on the couch. Help me to be active daily in my pursuit and worship of You. Help me to be part of a reformation in Jesus' name amen.
