Matt RichardsÂ
Philipians 3:13 I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.
In this New Year I can safely say I haven't got it all together. I haven't arrived. I am no where near perfect and won't pretend to be.
But in order to go forward I've got to forget some stuff. Forget some things that are behind me. You see if I focus on those things that I've been through and look back with regret I will find myself still living there and potentially even falling over.
So I have to forget some stuff of last year in order to focus on this year and go forward.
It's a bit like an etch-a-sketch. In order to have a brand new year I've got to wipe some stuff off the face of last year. You can't draw something new unless you wipe away the old. I have to have a blank page. Have to reset.Otherwise the picture is marred by what is already there.
It's a new year and there are some stuff that you just don't want to take with you this year.
So leave it behind, drop it, forget it.
Give some stuff to God, forgive, reset, make room, and press on.
There's too much at stake to dwell on the past. There's a goal, there's a prize, there's a calling that IÂ am going for. I am making some room. I am clearing the etch-a-sketch of my heart for the new. Bad things of 2019..forget it.
Prayer:
Father thank You for a New Year. I choose to forget some stuff of last year.
I choose to forgive. I choose to let You wipe the slate clean so I can press onto the new that is yet to be written in Jesus' Name, Amen.
