What Really Matters: Knowing God (Part 2)

Updated: Sep 18, 2020

Matt Richards

Philippians 3:10 [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]

I love this scripture and this translation in the Amplified version.

Paul is saying here what really matters is knowing Jesus. In knowing Jesus, you become transformed into His image.

Many people know about famous people. They could read about their lives or idols. They could visit where they live, dress the same, listen to their music or know all their quotes; but they don't really know them.

Whether you're an expert on Ronaldo or the Queen. Whether you know every possible fact about them, you still don't know them, not really; you know about them.

But I know, and am getting to know better and better the King of kings. The one that flung the stars into the sky. Personally. And you can too.

What really matters is my relationship, my walk with Jesus each day.

Adam and Eve had that walk each day with God in the cool of the afternoon. And you can too.

God still wants to be known. He really does. I can get to know God in prayer, in praise in worship and in His Word.

There are promises that those who know their God will do exploits and He whispers His secrets to those that know Him. So many things are relational and depend on intimacy with God.

So what really matters is not what you know, but who you know.

The disciples weren't the brightest, but it was said of them they must have been with Jesus.

My determined purpose. What really matters is not just being forgiven and one day going to heaven. But what really matters is getting to know my Father right now.

Prayer:

Father God thank You I can have a living relationship with You because of Jesus. Help me to get to know You more today and this year in Jesus' name amen.
